Your device's operating system asks before an app may talk to devices on your local network. Aprox needs this permission to reach Proxmox servers on your home or office network, for example at 192.168.1.10 or pve1.lan. Servers you reach over the internet or through a VPN usually do not need it.
iPhone, iPad and Mac
The system asks once, the first time Aprox connects to a server on your network: "Aprox needs local network access to reach Proxmox servers on your network."
- When the prompt appears, choose Allow.
- Sign in to the server as usual.
If you declined
Without the permission, connections to local servers fail, typically with "The server did not answer in time." Turn the permission on in the system settings:
- iPhone and iPad: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › turn on Aprox.
- Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › turn on Aprox.
Then return to Aprox and sign in again.
Android
Only recent Android versions have a separate Local Network permission. On those, Aprox asks for it just before it connects to a server on your local network. On older versions there is nothing to allow.
- When the system asks, allow local network access.
- Aprox continues signing in.
If you declined
Aprox shows "Local network access permission is required to connect to local servers." with a Grant Permission button.
- Tap Grant Permission.
- Allow the permission when the system asks.
Once the system stops showing its prompt (after you declined it more than once), Grant Permission opens Aprox's page in Android's app settings instead. Allow the local network permission there, then return to Aprox.
Watches
The Apple Watch and Wear OS apps reach your servers through Aprox on the phone. A local server cannot be reached from the watch until you have granted the permission in the phone app. Open Aprox on the phone once and sign in to the server there.
Good to know
- The permission covers all local servers at once. You grant it only once per device.
- A diagnostics report includes whether the local network permission is granted on Android. See Diagnostics report.
