These are the questions we are asked most often about Aprox. Each answer links to the article with the details. If your question is not here, see Troubleshooting or contact support.
Servers and connecting
Does Aprox need anything installed on the server? No. Aprox uses the standard Proxmox API on port 8006 (Proxmox VE) and 8007 (Proxmox Backup Server). The QEMU guest agent inside a VM is needed only to show its IP addresses, hostname and operating system. See Requirements.
Which Proxmox versions are supported? Proxmox VE 7.0 or newer, and Proxmox Backup Server.
Can I manage several clusters? Yes. You can add as many servers as you like, Proxmox VE clusters and Backup Servers mixed, on the free plan. All Clusters summarizes them on one screen.
Do I need an Aprox account? No. Aprox connects directly from your device to your servers. There is no Aprox account and no relay server in between. See Privacy and security.
Do my servers sync between my devices? No. Servers and their credentials stay on the device where you added them, so add them on each device. Handoff only opens a guest that the other device also has, and the watch gets its servers from its phone.
Can I try Aprox without a server of my own? Yes. Tap Demo Cluster in the empty sidebar. See Try the demo.
Is the demo real? Yes. It runs inside the app, and every change you make really takes effect: power actions, snapshots, hardware edits, migrations. Nothing leaves your device, and the demo resets when you quit Aprox. The console, creating guests, restoring backups and downloads are not available in the demo.
My server uses a self-signed certificate. Is that a problem? No. Aprox shows you the certificate's fingerprint once. Compare it with the server and tap Trust This Certificate; from then on Aprox accepts exactly that certificate. See Self-signed certificates.
Can I reach my servers over a VPN? Yes. Connect the VPN first, then open Aprox.
Where are my servers from Aprox 3? They are still on your device and can be brought back with Import Servers. See Import servers from Aprox 3.
Sign-in and consoles
Should I use a password or an API token? Both work. A token never expires and can be limited to exactly the rights Aprox needs. A password is required for the console. For background features such as alerts, Siri and the watch, either save the password or use a token. See Sign-in methods and two-factor.
Why can't I open the console with an API token? Proxmox does not accept API tokens for VNC and terminal connections. Switch the server to password sign-in to use the console.
Does Aprox support two-factor authentication? Yes: TOTP, recovery codes and Yubico OTP. Servers that ask for a code cannot be checked in the background, so sign in to them in the app first.
Is there a SPICE console? No. Aprox offers noVNC, xterm.js, its built-in VNC console and, on Mac and Android, an external VNC viewer. See Console.
What Aprox does and does not do
Can I install updates on a node? No. Aprox shows pending updates and can refresh the package index, but installing them is deliberately left to the Proxmox web UI or the shell. See Node maintenance.
Can I edit backup job schedules? Not for Proxmox VE backup jobs; Aprox shows them read-only. Prune, verify and sync jobs on a Proxmox Backup Server can be created and edited. See Backup jobs and Prune, verify and sync jobs.
Can I manage the cluster or node firewall, Ceph, SDN, HA, replication or Proxmox VE users? No, by design. Aprox covers the firewall of each guest. Users and permissions are supported on Proxmox Backup Server.
Does Aprox tell me when a backup did not run? It tells you when a backup fails, through the A task fails alert. It does not detect a scheduled backup that never started. See Alerts and notifications.
Can I use Siri on Android? No. Siri and Shortcuts are available on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android offers launcher shortcuts to jump to a server. See Siri and Shortcuts.
Aprox Pro
What is free and what needs Aprox Pro? Connecting servers, browsing every resource, live metrics, tasks, and all guest and node power actions are free. The console, configuration editing, snapshots, backups, clones, migrations, creating guests, storage management, alerts and the watch app need Aprox Pro. See Aprox Pro.
Does one purchase cover all my devices? On the App Store, one purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac on the same Apple Account, and Family Sharing is supported. Google Play is a separate purchase.
I bought Aprox Pro, but the app does not recognize it. Open Settings › Aprox Pro › Restore Purchases.
Why do I see promotions? On the free plan, Aprox occasionally shows promotions for Aprox Pro and our other apps. They use no advertising identifier and no tracking, and Aprox Pro removes them. See Promotions on the free plan.
Devices
Why is my widget out of date? Widgets show what Aprox last saw. Open Aprox to update them. See Widgets.
Why don't alerts arrive? Background checks need a saved password or an API token, notifications must be allowed, and the system must let Aprox run in the background. On the Mac, Aprox must be running. See Alerts and notifications.
Does the watch connect to my servers itself? No. The phone does all the work and sends the watch a summary, so the watch needs its phone nearby. See Watch app.
Can I change the language or the appearance? Aprox follows your device: it uses the system's language for the app and switches between light and dark with the system. See Languages.
